Cleveland Indians Smart to Pick Clint Frazier at No. 5 in 2013 MLB Draft

The Cleveland Indians got their 2013 MLB Draft started out with a solid pick in third baseman Clint Frazier. Some worry about Frazier’s size but I think the plus side of his skill set far outweighs any risk that his size might throw out there. The Indians have a solid system but are obviously undergoing a change in atmosphere from the top down in the organization with the hiring of Terry Francona to manage the major league club highlighting that fact. Frazier is a solid player with an upside that will make most forget all about any size problems.

In 32 games at the high school level Frazier hit for average and he has power potential now. Considering he has a little thickening up to do over the course of the next year or so he might develop into a 30 homer threat in that period of time. He also displayed 6.6 second 60 speed which is a plus that offsets some of the size issues as well.

In the end you are talking about a player with a quick swing that is deceptively powerful and is the type of stroke that can develop well into a big leaguer that hits to all fields. He might not be a 60 homer guy or something like that but if the Indians are looking for a guy that will provide speed, good contact hitting for RBI situations and decent power then Frazier could be a star in their system by the end of the year. Hopefully they can get him signed and into the system soon.
