Arizona Diamondbacks Pitcher Daniel Hudson Heading For Second Tommy John Surgery?

(Matt Kartozian/USA Today Sports)

The Arizona Diamondbacks have plenty to be excited about so far this season as they currently sit on top of the NL West standings with a 34-26 record, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be able to hold on to first place for the remainder of the season as the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies are each 2 1/2 games behind them. While the team was hoping to see Daniel Hudson at some point this season, it looks like they may have to wait until next year before that happens.

It looks like the 26-year-old pitcher could be on his way to his second Tommy John surgery after having one last July–which obviously puts his MLB career in jeopardy. Hudson attempted to pitch earlier this week in the minors, but he was forced to leave the game after suffering stiffness in his elbow.

Now, only time will tell when it comes to when Hudson will be able to play again–that is if he will even receive another opportunity. For a surgery as intense as Tommy John is, the fact that Hudson may have to deal with his second one in such a short period of time is never a good sign for any pitcher.

On the bright side, at least the Diamondbacks have still been performing well without him. As bad as it sounds, it’s difficult to tell whether or not having Hudson in the lineup would have made much of an impact since he was 3-2 with a 7.35 ERA in 2012 in the nine games he did appear in.
