It is hard to get better than the Oakland Athletics were just a few weeks ago. For the last half of the month of May they won nearly every single game they played and did what was already looking impossible, caught the Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West. Into all lives some rain must fall and as such the A’s have cooled off over the past several days. If they plan to keep pace with the Rangers they will need to get back to their winning ways against the New York Yankees.
The pitching match-ups are fairly even for the series so the Athletics will hope that veteran starter Bartolo Colon can continue his dominant pitching of late and give them the first game victory against C.C. Sabathia for the Yankees. So far this season the A’s have fared pretty well against the Yanks so chances are good that they can continue winning if they show up and take care of business.
Still, the Yankees seem to always bring as good of a game as they can and that will certainly not make things easy. Also of note is the fact that while the Athletics have lose three of their last six games, they have still only lost five games out of their last 22 contests dating back to the middle of May. Overall that is a dynamite run that shouldn’t really be discounted just because they lost two in a row. They look to keep pace in the AL West or even regain the lead as they take on the Yankees.
