Going into Wednesday afternoon’s third game versus the Los Angeles Angels, the Baltimore Orioles are looking for a three game sweep of the series. This would be a huge gain of momentum for the Orioles as they prepare for one of the biggest series of the season. The American League East leading Boston Red Sox are coming to town for big four game series from Thursday through Sunday. This one series could seriously alter the face of the AL East in favor of the Orioles.

They already have taken two of the games in this series and that would still be a big boost in momentum. However if the Tampa Bay Rays can beat the Red Sox again and the O’s sweep the Angels, they would be within 1.5 games going into the series. If they were that close they could win only three of four in the series and still emerge in first place, depending on what the New York Yankees do in their series.

Yes, this could be a very big week for the Orioles at home. If they complete the sweep at home with the road weary Red Sox coming all the way from Florida without an off day, it could really be a big boost for the beginning of the series. The other bonus of winning today is even if the Red Sox win their Rays game, the Orioles could still hold their own ability to overtake the Sox in their hands. It all starts with the final game of the Angels series though.
