Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers to Reportedly Begin 2014 Season in Australia

Gary A. Vasquez-USA Today Sports

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers are making headlines.

The two sides let their frustrations boil over on Tuesday night after a series of back and forth hit batsmen. A brawl broke out late in a closely contested ball game, resulting in six total ejections.

The Dodgers eventually rallied to win the game thanks in large part to a three-run bottom of the eighth. The story of the contest however, circulated directly around the brawl and rightfully so. Ironically enough however, additional news surfaced regarding these two teams on Wednesday morning and no, it had nothing to do with the fight — so that’s good, I guess.

According to a report from the LA Times, the Dodgers and Diamondbacks will open up the 2014 season … in Australia.

How about that? We know that major league teams have played abroad before, most notably in Japan a few years ago, but Australia is certainly an interesting location. The now budding rivals will play two season-opening contests next year which are, at the moment, tentatively scheduled for Mar. 22 and 23 at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Australia.

Well, here’s to hoping that they won’t have any trouble attracting fans considering what happened in Los Angeles on Tuesday night. A trip to Australia is a nice twist to this up and coming rivalry, that’s for sure.

The Diamondbacks and Dodgers will wrap up their current, three-game series on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10pm (EST).
