There are times where you have to pick your battles because you aren’t going to win the war. The Arizona Diamondbacks are a team that needs to do that very thing. They got into an all-out brawl with the Los Angeles Dodgers this week, and things got a little bit heated. I think it would be best for the team to do everything in their power to avoid another brawl breaking out.
The team was 37-29 going into their off day on Thursday, and they are leading the National League West. Arizona has a Rookie of the Year candidate in Patrick Corbin and an MVP product in Paul Goldschmidt. They can’t afford to screw things up now. I know that the Diamondbacks have a coaching staff full of long time players who remember the old ways of the game, and I want the game to stay that way but at what cost?
You can’t have someone like Corbin or Goldschmidt getting hurt in a senseless fight. I will be watching to see if Arizona fades during the second half of the season, but this thing with the Dodgers isn’t going to go away because Los Angeles won’t let it. I just hope that the anger doesn’t leak over into next season when those two teams begin the 2014 season playing in Australia. That would definitely be worldwide news if the two teams began to fight down under. This season has to become one where Arizona seizes a golden opportunity and finds a way to win the division, but they have to keep their heads on straight during the final months for that to happen.
