Detroit Tigers Need to Sweep the Minnesota Twins Series

The month of June has been a slight step down for the American League Central leading Detroit Tigers. They still lead the division and are over .500 for the few weeks of the month but it is just a little step down from the month of May that saw them and the Indians walk away with the Central for a lot of the month. Considering that and the fact that they just lost the series with the Kansas City Royals mean they should take advantage of the Minnesota Twins series and do everything they can to sweep.

They took the first game of the series 4 – 0 behind Rick Porcello. Game two on Saturday will see Anibal Sanchez return to the mound after being scratched from his last start. He apparently is feeling ready to go. Even though his replacement did superb in the one fill-in start it is surely very refreshing to see Sanchez ready to take the mound tonight.

All in all the Tigers don’t seem to be quite as dominant as they were a few weeks ago but that is okay. If you consider the way the other teams in the division have fared over their time of not-as-dominant play, they begin to look like a team of destiny.  Really the only team that has made a run thus far is the Royals but both they and the Cleveland Indians are an arm’s length away still.

That is precisely why they need to take full advantage of the Twins series. No offense to the Twins but the Tigers need to make up for not playing as good as they have in the recent weeks by sweeping a team they are fully capable of sweeping. If they do not the main reason will probably be them giving it away in all likelihood.
