Ex-Boston Red Sox Slugger Manny Ramirez’s Entertaining Career Over?
It appears former Boston Red Sox polarizing slugger Manny Ramirez‘s career has ended. His contract has ended with his Taiwanese team. He says he wants to make it back to the major leagues, but it is highly unlikely any team will give him a shot given the two previous suspensions for PED use and baseball going after users more than ever.
That being said, I am not sad Manny won’t make it back to the bigs, instead, I am saddened we don’t get to see any more of the fantastic clips that came out of Taiwan. We all remember Manny high-fiving a fan in Baltimore after making a catch, disappearing into the Green Monster between innings, or cutting off a throw from the center fielder when he had no business doing so.
However, his most entertaining highlights have come out of his few months in Taiwan.
He would take a minute and a half to get back into the box after swinging so hard that he stumbles backwards almost the entire way back to the dugout; he had some of the funniest home run trots, as well as some of the slowest, and he slid 15 feet shy of second base while the defense was attempting to turn two.
Even more entertaining than Manny being Manny in Taiwan are the home run calls by the announcers. Obviously you can’t understand a word that is said outside of “Manny Ramirez”, but the energy put into the calls make soccer announcers after a goal seem calm.
Manny may have left Boston on less than pleasant terms, but this is one Sox fan that will always remember his playing career with a smile and a laugh.
