Arizona Diamondbacks Have Weathered the Storm in NL West for Now
One week ago the Arizona Diamondbacks had lost four straight including getting swept by the San Diego Padres and saw their lead dwindle to a half game in the National League West. For any team that would be a serious problem as it certainly was for the DBacks. For a team in that situation, there are two clear choices. They can continue to falter and crumble under the pressure, releasing first place to the fastest charging contender. Or, they can fight back; start winning and stand tall knowing they have weathered the storm.
The Diamondbacks are now, one week later, three games up in the division and have won four games in a row. The choice they made is quite clear. Contributions came from everywhere and now they are in a much better position than they were even before the charge began. The confidence this must build in that clubhouse as they surely slap each other on the back and say that the NL West is there division until someone takes it from them. It is far from over though.
Currently the San Francisco Giants are the closest challenger to the DBacks coveted first place position but they are not the hardest charging team. Even though they lost a game or two this week the Padres are the biggest threat to the DBacks. They are the team that swept them after all. All things considered I know that the three teams after their title of division leader will not stop charging after them but right now it seems difficult to even think about betting against them.
