Literally everything that can go the way of the Pittsburgh Pirates is going that way right now. They just finished a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels and they didn’t get it for cheap either. As a matter of fact they were down by three runs going into the ninth inning. All they did was score three runs in the ninth to tie it at 6 and then four more in the tenth to put the game away. If they can win this game, they can win any game.
It is hard to say anyone but the Toronto Blue Jays is the best team in Major League Baseball right now but honestly the Blue Jays are the hottest team, meaning they have the longest winning streak, not the best. To avoid any disagreement though I am sticking with calling the Pirates the best team in the National League. They are still a game or two out of first, depending on the outcome of the St. Louis Cardinals game, but I think they are the team with the most overall momentum going forward.
I could be wrong, it has happened before, but I think the Pirates should be in first place by the time the all-star break rolls around. How everything will shake out is anyone’s guess but I know the Pirates can hit well and hit well in the clutch. I know they now have the best ERA in MLB with the dynamically impressive debut of Gerrit Cole. Everything down to calling up the right minor league prospects at the right time is going perfectly for the Pirates. If this trend continues, I don’t think there is any way to keep them away from first place.
