5 Houston Astros Who Deserve to Play in 2013 MLB All-Star Game
Considering the way the Houston Astros started the 2013 MLB season, you might not think there would be five players on their roster that performed well enough to be included on the 2013 MLB All-Star team for the American League. That isn’t true though. These guys, led by manager Bo Porter have done everything in their power to work hard and get better throughout the season. Any time effort like that is displayed, you can bet some guys are good enough to be considered all-stars.
What makes an all-star is probably up in the air for a lot of people but I think it should come down to who is valuable at their position for their team. The most valuable players at second base for example should be put together and voted on where the best player, not the most popular gets the nod. Not everyone agrees with me of course but that is what I believe an all-star is. That way if there is someone that most of the nation might not know that is playing extremely well, the all-star could be the showcase it is designed to be where everyone can get to know them.
Such would be the case for many of the Astros players. There have been contributions from all over the place but only a few have contributed on a level that means they should be included on the 2013 MLB All-Star team. This is a list of what I believe are five players from the Astros that should make the team.

3 – Lucas Harrell – P
I admit his ERA doesn’t necessarily scream All-Star but anyone paying close attention to this team knows that Harrell has had shut down stuff much more often than not this season. He is in a tough spot with this team that is growing up around him but he is carrying the load quite well. He is an all-star.
2 – Jose Altuve – 2B
Altuve is so good that Bo Porter once joked that he wished he had nine of him to place at every point in the batting order. He plays the game the right way and his production this year is plenty enough to display his position as one of the top second basemen in the game.
1 – Matt Dominguez – 3B
Dominguez has been the unsung hero for the Astros this year. His 43 RBI and 11 homers have seemingly all come at a really good time. He is the MVP of the team right now in my opinion and certainly one of the top third basemen in the National League. He deserves a spot early in the game on the NL side.
