If you are wondering what my prediction is on whether or not the Oakland Athletics will win the American League West, you are sadly going to be disappointed. I have absolutely no idea if they will win it or not. They weren’t in the picture and then they really weren’t before catching first and now they are in the heat of it. Who knows what will happen from here. I know one thing though. Just like every year for the Athletics, there is a new hero this year and his name is Josh Donaldson.

You might be like me and not know a great deal about Donaldson. At least I didn’t before this season. He is playing third base for the Athletics this year and doing a stinking fine job of it at that. Where he has been the most impressive however is with his bat. He leads the Athletics in RBI with 52 and batting average with a mark of .312. If you are wondering where this guy came from the answer is simple. He came from the A’s minor league system like so many others that have come before him.

His RBI output shows no signs of slowing down and he is batting a blistering .382 in his last ten games with nine RBI and six runs scored. He has seven errors but has been solid at third and is quickly becoming the next big offensive weapon for the A’s in a long line of sluggers. What will happen to this one? Will he get older and sign a big deal with someone else or will he lose his edge in a year or two? Maybe he will stick around for a while. No matter what he does in the future, he is fun to watch for now. Enjoy his performance during the stretch run.
