Pittsburgh Pirates Continue to Steamroll the Rest of MLB
Some say it is the pitching staff freakishly pitching good of late while some say the hitting just so happens to be getting the big hit at just the right time lately. There are a lot of theories out there about why the Pittsburgh Pirates are in first place but my favorite is the one that I have come to believe to be true. The Pirates simply are the best team in Major League Baseball right now. Scoff at that all you want, a team doesn’t reach 50 wins and 20 games over .500 by being lucky. That happens by being darn good.
The people speculating about the pitching staff are right. They have played great lately. They have also played great all year long which is why they rank first among MLB pitching staffs in ERA. Again that doesn’t happen over a two week hot stretch folks, they are good. They’ve been good all year long. The only thing that changed lately is that they are putting even more pieces together and playing even better. They will cool off though, teams always do.
Their eight straight wins are impressive but that isn’t where they will win the NL Central. That will happen because of the strength of their team and the way they play the game. As long as that doesn’t change, they will be extremely hard to beat and I doubt even the St. Louis Cardinals can keep them down in the end. Like it or love it, this might finally be the Pirates year to be back on top. Looking at the way their roster shakes out they might be the best team for a few years to come.
