Arizona Diamondbacks Rumors: DBacks Shouldn’t Trade Matt Davidson
The Arizona Diamondbacks are swirling in rumors once again this year. Just like last year with Justin Upton and others, it appears that the DBacks are looking to make some changes around the trade deadline. That is just fine and they absolutely should make some changes but they should not trade third base prospect Matt Davidson. He should be labeled untouchable and untradeable immediately and not touched.
There are problems in the outfield for the DBacks and they are also looking to add some starting pitching. We all know that rumors are just that but both of these sound very real as those are big time areas of need for the Diamondbacks. For one example, they were asked about the availability of pitching prospects Tyler Skaggs and Archie Bradley. Upon being asked about that they apparently stopped talking. It is unclear which players are untouchable and which are not. The fact is that it would be okay for them to give up some young pitching to get young pitching but a solid third baseman that is home grown is even rarer.
Davidson hasn’t been mentioned publicly so his status is also unclear but it shouldn’t be. Everyone has pitching prospects but Davidson could be their third baseman for the next decade. He has the full potential to be the Paul Goldschmidt of the hot corner side of the infield. Diamondbacks, go ahead and trade for Alex Rios, give up Skaggs and another prospect for Yovani Gallardo. But do not let anyone fool you into giving up Davidson. He could be much more valuable than the prospects above him.
