David Lough's Hot Bat Keeping Kansas City Royals In Winning Direction

It’s the middle of summer for MLB, but the Kansas City Royals are hoping that David Lough‘s bat does not cool off for a long time, if at all.

Obviously, Lough isn’t going to keep hitting the ball as well as he has for the Royals for an indefinite amount of time. But when batters are swinging as well as Lough is now, the Royals need to keep encouraging him to give him as many at bats as possible and hope he keeps it up.

In Sunday’s 9-8 win over the Minnesota Twins, Lough was 4-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored. The RBI stat is always held more in esteem than runs scored. But the fact is that Lough gets on base and sets the table up for another batter. That makes him an incredible asset at the plate and on the basepaths. He’s a manager’s delight right now. He’s giving the Royal offense something to work with at just about every at bat.

The Royal right-fielder is batting a solid .314 and was at the No. 8 spot on Sunday. The Royals are likely to move him up a few notches in the lineup so he can get a few more at bats.

He’s obviously trying to insure himself a spot on the team and not get sent back down to Omaha, which won’t happen anytime too soon if he keeps this up. His batting performance in the last 10 games is remarkable. He’s at .419 after having gone 13-of-31. His slugging percentage is .471.

Lough needs to keep having fun and enjoying himself. That’s been the key behind his success.
