For Joe Mauer this is all something he is accustomed to. He gets up in the morning, does whatever he does between waking up and game time, then goes out and plays catcher better than anyone else in the game on a regular basis. He is an All-Star, period. The Minnesota Twins star catcher is going to the All-Star game for the sixth time in 2013 but he is not alone. Also going is another well deserving Twins player, Glen Perkins.
Perkins is someone I saw not long ago and wondered why his name wasn’t all over trade rumors too. This guy is one of the better closers in the game and it becomes pretty obvious just by looking at him pitch. Sure, he isn’t perfect but heck, none of them are. He has great poise and great stuff. This is his first All-Star game selection but I can absolutely guarantee you it will not be his last.
The Twins are still double digit games behind the lead in the American League central. They play hard but don’t always win their series that they play. Everyday doesn’t always carry a load of good news for this franchise. Today though, two guys who knew each other from the same area of Minnesota during their Little League days are planning to represent their home state in the MLB All-Star Game. That is about as good as the news can get right now for this team. They should enjoy it.
