The Detroit Tigers are rolling. Rolling in a way that would make Adele want to sing a song about it.
The Tigers have won five in a row, all on the road and all pretty comfortably as they have seen a half game deficit switch to a 3.5 game lead in the AL Central. Doug Fister will take the mound looking to get that win streak to six and get the win streak over the Cleveland Indians up to eight in a row.
To say the Tigers have owned the Indians recently would be an understatement. It is safe to say that Cleveland is looking forward to the Tigers leaving town. This was the Tigers team that everyone signed up for at the beginning of the season: an offense that could pounce early and often, producing big run support for a starting staff that could shut down any team.
It will be important for Fister to pitch better than he has of late, having gone 0-1 with a 7.16 ERA in his last three starts. Fister has had success against the Indians in the past including last year, where he was 2-1 with a 2.12 ERA in four starts.
If the Tigers can somehow stay hot from now until the All-Star break, they have a great chance of really going for the kill and solidifying the division that everyone expected them to claim.
Nothing is ever guaranteed for the Tigers, but a hot streak up until the break could expand the lead greatly and with no other team in the division really capable of playing consistently, there is nothing holding the Tigers back from putting a stranglehold on this division.
The fat lady may be singing on the Indians … Or maybe it’s just Adele.
