Los Angeles Dodgers Rookie Yasiel Puig Should Win Final All-Star Vote
If you just so happened to have read an article of mine from a short time ago you will have read that I agreed with Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly when he suggested Yasiel Puig did not yet need to be an All-Star. I thought that was a great way to say it and I whole heartedly agreed. Now that his name is in the running for the final vote, I can’t help myself. I want Puig to play in that game. Should I be ashamed?
He is a rookie and he is too much of a rookie to make the team. It’s true. That’s why he wasn’t on the ballot. But man on man he would be great to watch in that game, wouldn’t he? I actually don’t even think he is the best performer in the running for the final vote. My vote for the best overall season had by one of those guys would probably go to Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman.
In spite of all the reasons he shouldn’t make it, I can’t help wondering what would happen if the man who had the best start to a career since Joe DiMaggio were to play in the All-Star game. Would he go two-for-two with a homer and three RBI? Would he hit a game winning grand slam? Would he strike out with the tying run on base and show everyone why the other All-Stars deserved to be there more than him? Would he do all manner of crazy great things and show everyone that while most players of his tenure would not deserve to be there, he is different? I just really want to find out and that is why I want him there.
