It didn’t always look like it would be this way but now it is clear that Adam Wainwright will pitch the Sunday before the All-Star break which will mean he could pitch in All-Star Game. Tuesday of the game itself will work out to be his normal side session day meaning Wainwright could pitch for a short time during the game. He absolutely should do it because he deserves it.
Sure he also deserves the right to choose not to pitch in the game but no one has been better than Wainwright for the first half of the season. Especially not too far removed from surgery, this season’s return to form has been huge both for Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals. He is their ace and once again he is the main reason for their being so successful and fighting for the lead in the National League Central.
Heck, let’s be honest. If they were in any other division in Major League Baseball, they wouldn’t be fighting for anything but to make sure their rotation was set for the postseason. Of course nothing is that set in stone but Wainwright is the cornerstone for the team that has been the best in baseball for most of the first half.
Why wouldn’t he want to be featured in the game that is supposed to showcase the best at each position? Best pitchers in the game; yeah that’s Wainwright alright. He is right there with the best of the best and deserves a half inning of recognition for it.
