Yovani Gallardo is among the starting pitchers that are rumored to be moving to another team sometime in the next three weeks. The Milwaukee Brewers are playing their cards close to their chests on this one but I think they should put Gallardo out there and pull the trigger on a trade sooner rather than later. He isn’t going to pull in the trade return that Matt Garza will but that might also make him more attractive to get at a slightly cheaper price for many teams.
The team that Gallardo will make his next start against is one of the teams that is interested or has expressed interest in the last few weeks. The Arizona Diamondbacks are knee deep in a pennant race that basically is a losing streak away from including every team in the division. They obviously are looking for whatever help they can get. Considering the year that Gallardo is having I don’t know why the Brewers would wait.
Gallardo isn’t lighting the world on fire this year. He is only 7 – 8 with a 4.85 ERA. That isn’t exactly what you would consider ace material for a team in the DBacks that is at or near the top of the National League in starter ERA. If they are interested enough to give the Brewers something remotely attractive in return, by all means move him now. Don’t wait until his price goes down even more. He has give up 15 earned runs in his last three outings, one of which lasted only three innings.
Brewers, please, if there are people begging to give you good prospects for Gallardo trade him now. Don’t wait until a good trade partner is out of the running because they took Garza or someone else.
