Red Hot Chicago Cubs Should Give a lot of Credit to Alfonso Soriano

It was just mentioned by me that the Chicago Cubs have gotten the better of the MLB Trade season so far. That is true as far as the moves they have made but it also is true because of the way they are playing. In case you didn’t notice, the Cubs went into Wednesday night’s game looking for their fifth consecutive win. As of this writing it doesn’t appear that will be an easy feat but the fact remains they have been very hot of late and the reason for that, a lot of the reason for that is Alfonso Soriano.

Soriano is the notorious trade bait for the Cubs that never gets traded. Whether or not his name is in even more rumors this year isn’t the point right now. What is the point is that Soriano is having a blisteringly hot stretch of games right now. Over his last ten games coming into Wednesday’s game his stats look like something out of a movie. He has hit .390 over that stretch with 16 hits, 7 homers, 12 runs scored and 16 RBI. I’ll pause while we read back over that.

Get a good look folks because whether or not this is the start of a last surge for Soriano or his statement that he is far from washed up is unclear but what is crystal clear is the fact that Soriano is carrying this club offensively right now. For me it is nice to see. All these years Soriano was supposed to be traded and who knows, he might get traded yet. But right now he is providing offensively for his team like few in the game can do over a ten game period. Congrats Soriano on a job well done.
