Fans always take pride in players on their home baseball teams that are performing in the MLB All-Star game, especially when a team only has one representative. In that case, the player becomes even more important to the fans.
Everth Cabrera, however, is more than just the only representative for San Diego Padres at the All-Star game. Cabrera has a chance, provided he plays enough defense tonight, to show that he’s among the best all-around shortstops in the majors. The Padres stumbled into the All-Star break , but Cabrera could still hold his head high. Offensively, he’s been getting the job done. He’s batting .291 with four home runs, 25 RBIs and 43 runs scored.
Hopefully, he’ll get on base tonight so that fans can watch him do his thing. He leads the National League with 33 stolen bases.
When the MLB season resumes, Cabrera will try to bounce back from a mild slump. The Padres need for Cabrera to be playing at his very best in order for them to be their most effective.
His career has been a distinguished one, but with a .252 batting average for his career, this is his strongest hitting season in the majors. His career on base percentage is .333, and it’s .373 for the season. His slugging percentage is .343 for his career and .396 on the season. This shows what a fine season Cabrera is having and why he’s in the All-Star game.
So far, 2013 has been very good for Cabrera. He’s confident that after the All-Star game, it will be even better.
