Every single Major League Baseball fan knows what the term “Rebuilding Year” means. Usually it means a lot more than just one year is going to be sunk. For example, take a look at the last several years for the Houston Astros. It looked coming into this season that there was no way they could possibly make much progress and yet they have made such huge strides in such a short time that it makes you wonder if they could win as early as next season.

Frankly I think they can. Considering the changes that they went through, including a change of leagues no-less, it is truly amazing what they have done. What they did correctly was change the attitude of the organization from the top down. Too many times a lackadaisical owner or GM just pads his pockets while waiting for superstars to materialize out of thin air. Who cares when the team wins as long as those big suits are making money?

That isn’t the way a winner has ever been built and it isn’t what is happening in Houston. The Astros have struck gold in literally every single move they have made. Even when a move didn’t pan out they made a golden move by getting rid of that person. They have a goal to make the Astros a winning franchise for a long time to come. The men that are in control in the front office as well as the best new manager in the game today, Bo Porter, will have this team winning or at least threatening to win wildcard spots by as early as next season. That will be truly incredible when it happens.
