Would New York Yankees Ever Trade Alex Rodriguez to the Boston Red Sox?

Alex Rodriguez

I know. I know. This is a shocking trade scenario. The New York Yankees, trading a guy who was once considered the best player in baseball to their arch rivals? At one time, it was unthinkable. Now, I think the Yankees need to think long and hard about it.

How much productivity can they really get out of Alex Rodriguez anymore, anyway? I think he’s certainly got something left in the tank, but not enough to justify what they’re paying him. He’ll be making 29 million dollars this year for riding the bench, and I think it’s about time they dumped him.

It will certainly be difficult to find a trade partner for such a high salary. The only way the Yankees will be able to dump him is if they eat a huge part of his salary and trade him to a team that can afford the rest. Said team must also have a need for a third baseman, and must be looking to make a run at the World Series. The first team that comes to my mind is … the Boston Red Sox.

I know. I know. Call me crazy, but I think it could happen. Opening day third baseman Will Middlebrooks has struggled mightily this season, and I don’t think there’s a better guy available than the former best player in baseball.

Yes, a lot of pieces would have to fall together. But if the trade happens, you heard it hear first.
