Incredible July Continues for Tampa Bay Rays now Half Game Behind
The first half of the season for the Tampa Bay Rays was literally up and down. They sandwiched a really good May between two less than .500 months in April and June. July has been an entirely new ballgame for them however as well as the team they are chasing for the American League East lead. That’s right ladies and gentlemen. The Rays are chasing after a first place team and this time it looks like they really are going to catch them.
With a shutout win on Monday night the Rays are now only one half game out in the American League East race. Everything is going right along with their schedule and they are hotter than they have been all year at the perfect time. The result after this four game series will probably be a brand new first place team in the East. That is a difficult prediction to make but I really think the Rays have too much momentum to be stopped over a four game stretch. The shutout in game one of the series seems to agree with my sentiment.
They have lost only two games in the month of July. So much for a summer drought I guess. Their pitching has been flawless as has been their timely hitting. The result is simple if they can continue doing much of the same and keep the other guys from doing it. They will overtake the Boston Red Sox for first place before the end of the week unless something drastic robs the Rays of their momentum. I’m not saying it will be a sweep and I’m not saying it will be pretty but the Rays would actually be disappointing a lot of experts if they didn’t take over first place for now. I’m sure that is all the motivation they need.
