While it was speculated that Ryan Braun and other players would be suspended for violation of the MLB drug program. It has been announced by Major League Baseball and other sources that Braun has been suspended for the rest of the season.
If you remember back, Braun was suspended last offseason, but he won his appeal. However, this time, Braun has accepted his faults and the suspension given. He has also released the following statement:
“I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions.”
This isn’t very surprising to myself and other baseball fans. His reputation was partially tainted by last year’s issues, and Monday’s news won’t make the public’s opinion of him any better. Basically, Braun’s 2013 season was a total waste for both the Milwaukee Brewers and himself as he battled injuries for most of the season.
One thing is for certain, Braun will not be the only player suspended this season. It’s most likely that other players being investigated for banned substances won’t serve their suspension until the 2014 season
However, today Braun has disappointed not only the MLB and his team, but also himself. I hope Braun gets some help for his drug issues and makes a return to baseball. At the same time, I am glad to see Braun recognizing that he made a mistake. Hopefully he looks to correct these mistakes in the future.
For now though, Braun has all season to think about his actions as he will be serving a suspension through the end of the season. I’m sure that fantasy owners everywhere are now going crazy that Braun will not be playing another game this season.
