Most teams that lose a successful starting outfielder for the remainder of the season find themselves in a difficult situation. Will they need to trade for someone or can they shift a bench player around a little bit? How long before the MLB trade deadline and who is available. That isn’t the case for the Miami Marlins. They simply have plenty of great young outfielders waiting in the minor leagues so they called a few up this last week.
Christian Yelich and Jake Marisnick are the next pair in a long line of very good to possibly great outfield prospects in the Marlins stable. Somehow they have enough talent in their minor league system that even losing someone like Marcell Ozuna, though a tough break is not so drastic. As a matter of fact, depending on how well Yelich and Marisnick perform, Ozuna might have to fight hard in spring training 2014 to even make the team.
That sounds crazy but it is true. They showed again by winning three of four from the Colorado Rockies that they are far from being pushovers. The Marlins are becoming one of the better teams among the non-contenders for sure. Even the contending teams have a handful when playing a series against these guys. To be able to call up two promising young prospects at this time of the season just shows how great of a future they will have.
