Peavy out-dueled Justin Verlander who was virtually beat up in allowing seven runs over six innings of work. With the White Sox starter sitting squarely on the trade block with the deadline nearing — could Peavy have already pitched his final game with Chicago? Well, the MLB trade deadline is Jul. 31, which is next Wednesday and as of right now, Peavy is scheduled to pitch again on Tuesday, Jul. 30, so there is the chance that he could go again in a White Sox uniform, if he is not dealt by then.
That however, could be a big if considering teams who are interested in acquiring may want to do so and bring him in for an immediate start around the tail end of next week. On the flip side of the argument, teams may want to scout Peavy one more time and play the waiting game until the final day of the deadline arrives. So, it really could go either way at this juncture.
Peavy pitched well on Thursday afternoon, allowing only four runs in seven innings of work, earning his eighth victory of the season in the process. He has attracted the attention of numerous playoff contenders and he could an ideal fit with a few of them who are in consideration. One squad that has joined that list is the Atlanta Braves, who lost Tim Hudson for the season on Wednesday night when he suffered a gruesome broken ankle.
Peavy could very well be on the move and based on the timing of a potential deal, he may have already pitched his final game in a White Sox uniform.
