Los Angeles Dodgers 2012 Trade for Hanley Ramirez a Great Deal

There could be nothing going on for the Los Angeles Dodgers at the MLB trade deadline this coming Wednesday but that wasn’t the case last season. During the 2012 season the Dodgers made what could turn out to be one of the better trades in the last several years when they sent Nathan Eovaldi to the Miami Marlins for Hanley Ramirez.

Eovaldi has been one of the better starters for the Marlins but that doesn’t take away how graet of a deal this was for the Dodgers. The fact of the matter is with all the starters the Dodgers had last off-season and coming into this season, Eovaldi wouldn’t likely have started anyway. He gets that chance now but the Dodgers didn’t really lose him as a starter because it is doubtful he would have started consistently for them.

Ramirez however has been on fire since coming back from the disabled list a couple of months ago. Though the effect of Yasiel Puig was much publicized, it has been Ramirez carrying the team since he returned. Ramirez continues to be the offensive leader on this team. Because of the DL stay he doesn’t lead a stat category but on this team, Ramirez is the man opposing pitchers want to see the least when the game is on the line.

Even if they wind up doing nothing at all this year, their 2012 trade for Ramirez was so good that the positive impact has carried over and is still one of the better trades made in recent years, in spite of the injury issues.
