Everyone deals with rumors this time of the MLB season but the Colorado Rockies indecision is no rumor. It is a fact that at this point the Rockies do not know if they should sell or buy at the MLB trade deadline coming up in a couple of days. I’m not sure why there is such a debate at this point for the Rockies front office but if they need a little advice, I am happy to assist. They should buy, not sell at the trade deadline this year.
There are several reasons but I’ll start with the one that is most likely to happen. They were six games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks going into play on Monday night. That isn’t a good number as the end of July approaches but with the nature of the N.L. West this year, that could change in a hurry. It was only a few weeks ago that the Dodgers were as many as nine games out or more. Now they look like the obvious pennant winners.
The moral is that the top team in the West can switch around to a flop team very quickly for some reason. If that were to happen around the same time the Rockies have a winning streak, they’d be right back in the mix. That would be enough reason for me to buy instead of selling good players that could help them win it all next year. If they are buyers they will try to upgrade the bullpen and possibly the bench. Those are great goals that can help them beyond this season as well as down the stretch. They have a good plan, all they need to do now is execute the buy plan; not the sell plan.
