Arizona Diamondbacks Current Front-Runners For Jake Peavy?

Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy, who has been involved in numerous trade rumors, has been scratched from his scheduled start tonight.

The White Sox have come out and said the reason why they are scratching Peavy from his start tonight is so he is fresh and ready to step in to whatever team he is traded to tomorrow, as tomorrow marks the the non-waiver MLB trade deadline.

While teams like the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves have been rumored to acquire Peavy, the Arizona Diamondbacks has come out as the favorites to add Peavy to their roster according to ESPN.

The Diamondbacks, who once held the NL West division lead for quite some time, were passed by the red-hot Dodgers, who currently have a 2.5 game lead over Arizona entering play today. With the news of the Dodgers signing former star closer Brian Wilson to a minor league contract, the Diamondbacks need to make a move in order to keep pace with the Dodgers who are showing very little, if no signs of slowing down.

Peavy is a former Cy Young Award winner, and even though he is not close to that form and may never do so again, he is still a good mid-rotation guy and whould solidify the Diamondbacks staff. With Arizona being the current front-runners and with so many teams, including the Dodgers, actively going after Peavy, tomorrow’s deadline should be interesting to see where he ends up.
