Colorado Rockies Rumors: Last Four Games Suggest a Need for Pitching
Though the Colorado Rockies seem to be a pretty well put together baseball club, they certainly wanted to be buyers at the deadline. I’m not sure how much leverage they have for making big name deals but they don’t have to have big names, just different ones at this point. It has become clearer over the past few games how bad the Rockies need some pitching help.
Everyone goes through a slump now and then but the Rockies have given up three or fewer runs only twice since the All-Star break. The last four games have seen their pitching staff give up a total of 32 runs. They sit currently at 6.5+ games out of first place and possibly more depending on scores later on Wednesday. The sum total and the point are simple. If they continue playing like they are right now and do not make a good couple of buys, people will wonder why they didn’t go for a sale because of how far they are out of first place.
It didn’t seem quite this bad just a few days ago but the struggles this week have shined an unfortunate light on the Rockies’ shortcomings. As crazy as it might seem right now I believe the Rockies still have a real chance in the N.L. West with a ton of help. No amount of help they continue to give up a ton of runs.
There are pitchers out there for trade that could positively impact them but it remains to be seen if the Rockies have the prospects and the deal making power it will take to get it done. If they do not I think they will soon regret not being able to do something to help their pitching staff.
