Milwaukee Brewers ace Yovani Gallardo was forced to leave Tuesday night’s contest against the Chicago Cubs early with tightness in his hamstring. Milwaukee was able to win the first game of the doubleheader 6-5, even with Gallardo leaving in the fifth inning. Even though no one will know exactly how serious the injury is until it is looked at on Wednesday, one thing the Brewers do understand is that whatever plans they had to trade the right-hander have gone out the window.
I am not saying Milwaukee was for sure going to deal the starter at Wednesday’s MLB trade deadline. However, no one can deny all of the rumors that have been circulating around Gallardo for the past few weeks. The Brewers are a sinking ship, and Ryan Braun’s 65-game suspension certainly did not help. The Brewers need to make some moves to help the team in the future. Personally, I am glad Gallardo will not be traded because I believe he has the ability to be a very talented pitcher.
As far as how serious Gallardo’s hamstring injury is, the Brewers will have to run some tests to see the full effect of the damage.
“We’ll see how it is [Wednesday] and go from there,” Gallardo said, according to Brewers.com. “It’s the way the year has been. For myself, it was probably the best I’ve felt in a long time overall, mechanics-wise and locating pitches.”
Gallardo has been dealing with a sore hamstring for a few weeks now, which means it could be more serious than the organization hopes. On the other hand, it may be something that will be overcome after a few days of rest.
