Philadelphia Phillies Should Have Dealt Cliff Lee

The Philadelphia Phillies are likely not going to make the playoffs this year. I am sure anyone could have guessed that by their 50-57 record, which really isn’t that bad. What is bad is the fact that they sit 12 games back in their division. Whether the case, Cliff Lee should have been dealt.

Lee would have been one of the biggest names to get traded at the deadline, but instead of hearing about a trade happening involving Lee, we heard crickets from Philadelphia.

He may be aging, but he is still a very solid pitcher. His 10-4 record and ERA of 3.05 this season pretty much tell that story.

The Phillies lose out on not trading Lee, but hopefully things turn around for this team. Philadelphia could have gotten quite a bit for Lee–such as prospects for the future.

Whether the case, the Phillies keep a great pitcher. Lee clearly still has it, although he has been shaky as of late.

A contending team could have really used a pitcher like Lee on their staff.

I am sure many people are already giving up on this Phillies for the year, but there is still a lot of baseball left to be played. It would be very tough for Philadelphia to catch Atlanta, but I suppose it is not impossible. I mean, nothing is impossible or that is at least what people say.

Whether if the Phillies were planning on trading Lee today or not, he should have been dealt, but at least Philadelphia will still have a great pitcher on their team and hopefully something good happens–like the team getting above .500.
