Los Angeles Dodgers Looking To Prove They’re Contenders

The Los Angeles Dodgers have arguably been baseball’s best team since the All-Star break. They will look to continue their hot play on Friday against the Chicago Cubs.

The Dodgers will send rookie Hyun-Jin Ryu to the mound to face Travis Wood of the Cubs. Both pitchers have had excellent seasons thus far. Ryu has a record of 9-3 while Wood has an ERA of 2.79, so it would be safe to say that it’s more than likely Friday’s game will be a pitcher’s duel.

Though Yasiel Puig has cooled somewhat, the Dodgers have not. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games, which has led them to a 3.5 game lead in the NL West over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Not since 2009 have the Dodgers won their division. It looks likely that the streak will end this year, especially after the addition of Brian Wilson, who was one of the best relievers/closers in the game just a couple of years ago .

With all of the success they are having of late, they need to be aware of their upcoming schedule. After the three games left in the series against the Cubs, the Dodgers will face the St. Louis Cardinals for four games, and then the Tampa Bay Rays for a three-game set. These are two of baseballs finest teams this season, despite the Cardinals going 1-7 in their last eight games.

If the Dodgers can go 4-3 in the seven games against these teams, it should prove to everyone that they are for real.
