This coming week, the Boston Red Sox play seven games to start their 10-game road trip. They will start the week off in Houston.

The Houston Astros have the inside track to get the No. 1 overall pick in the draft for the third straight year by posting the worst record in baseball. That said, the Astros are capable up putting up some runs. A sweep is certainly possible for the Red Sox, but there are two games they are at real risk of losing.

Tuesday’s game will pit knuckleballer Steven Wright against Jordan Lyles. Red Sox fans are all too familiar with seeing a knuckler take the bump, but Wright is no Wakefield. He can certainly put together a good start here and there, so time will tell how he fares in that matchup.

Wednesday, Ryan Dempster takes to the hill against Jarred Cosart. Dempster’s overall numbers are decent, but watching his starts are brutal. He will give them six innings, give up three runs and leave with the token quality start, but those three runs tend to all come in the same inning and end on a bases-loaded double play, or at least that is the way he makes you feel while watching the game. Cosart made a phenomenal debut and is a potential shutdown starter.

The weekend series will see the Red Sox in Kansas City for a four-game set. The Kansas City Royals are hovering just above .500 and are one of those teams that can’t figure out if they are contenders or not. This series is huge for the Royals, as winning the series would put them in a good place in their division and the Wild Card standings.

The Red Sox will look to put a gap between them and the Tampa Bay Rays, and they have seven winnable games this week. Even though the Royals are in the playoff hunt this year, the Red Sox really need to come away with five of the seven games, especially with Rays having five games against the top two teams in the NL West.
