Detroit Tigers Series is Chance for Cleveland Indians to Claim First

The Cleveland Indians are doing a lot of things right but still have not been able to catch the Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League Central division. With all the games they have won of late they should have gained something in the way of ground but they have remained stagnant thanks to the Tigers also having won a ton of games lately. The best way to remedy that is to win the head to head series like the one they are playing in Cleveland this week.

For the start to the series it looked like the Indians were about to get off to a great start by taking the first game. Instead the Tigers showed why they are in first and the Tribe is chasing it with a four-run 9th inning rally. All isn’t lost of course as the head to head games are still the best chance the Indians have.

They need to win the next two games and take the series against the Tigers. This is why the schedule is designed this way and it is working out great in the A.L. Central. The head to head’s between these two playoff caliber teams will be like October has come early for the rest of the summer.

All of the great things about it won’t matter if the Indians can’t manage to score a few more runs. Their own pitching staff did superb on Monday but was let down by the bullpen. It happens to the best of them and as long as it doesn’t become a habit, they’ll still have a great chance. If it does become a habit then they can kiss their post-season goodbye.
