The Houston Astros haven’t had a series win in quite some time. The problem is that they just aren’t a good baseball team. Lately, however, they have given fans a really nice glimpse of the future, especially with their rookie starting pitcher Jarred Cosart.

Today, the Astros will rely on that rookie for a series win against one of the best teams in baseball, the Boston Red Sox.

When you think about the Astros, what do you think about? Some think about the 100 losses, bad baseball and beautiful uniforms. I, however, think about the future. The future is extremely bright for this organization. Led by Cosart, the rookies have been flowing through the Astros, and so far this season, Cosart has arguably been the most successful, though it has only been four starts.

The young righty has an overpowering fastball, as well as a nasty curveball to keep hitters off-balance. In his first four starts, he hasn’t allowed more than one run in any outing. The strikeout numbers haven’t been where he would like, but he has still been extremely successful, and the Astros are going to need more of the same from Cosart tonight.

For the Astros to win the series against the Red Sox, they’re going to need an all-around great game played. The Astros will be missing a spark in their lineup with Jonathan Villar out due to a sprained left thumb. Even with Villar out, Robbie Grossman, who looks completely different since his recall, will be able to pick up some slack.

With all that said, the Red Sox are one of the best offensive teams in baseball. Cosart will have to be on top of his game because the Astros are relying on him to pick up this team and deliver a series win.
