Ryan Raburn Deserved Cleveland Indians Contract Extension

As the Cleveland Indians continue to fight the Detroit Tigers for the American League Central division title, they are getting help from all sides. Whether or not that will be enough this season is still up in the air but now they know they will have the services of at least one more of their current roster members for a few more years. Ryan Raburn has received a contract extension from the Tribe through the 2015 season with a team option for 2016.

This is an incredible turn of events for Raburn who had a disastrous 2012 season for the Tigers. It was so bad in fact that he wasn’t signed in the offseason to a MLB contract but rather a minor league deal. He worked and hustled his way to a roster spot at the start of the season and that same hustle has now gotten him a concrete deal for the next two to three years. This could not come at a better time for baseball.

I’m not certain who all will pay close attention to this contract deal but I am certain that it won’t be nearly as much as those paying attention to the PED scandal. Considering the mess that the PED situation has caused, it would be great to highlight a guy who has gotten assistance from no one but his own hustle and determination. What a great story this would be if it were all over national news. Raburn Personifies Spirit of Major League Baseball, the headline could read.

Though I am more than certain that will not happen, at least the good people of Cleveland know that Raburn will stick around for a few more years to bring his hard fighting brand of versatile baseball to the diamond. That’s good news for them if for no one else.
