The Colorado Rockies have been high and low so many times this season they might have gotten a case of vertigo by the start of August. Maybe that explains the 1 – 9 road trip that helped bury their chances for any type of post season in 2013. At least they can say they spent some time in first place and basically everywhere else in the division before August took them down. All isn’t gloomy with the Rockies however. They can look to their young talent as a stepping stone towards a better 2014 season. At the top of the list of bright spots is third baseman Nolan Arenado.
Arenado has been solid at worst this year and when he is really hitting well he’s been better than that. He is solid defensively and has power along with good contact ability in the box. Sure there are strikeouts and other things to work on but this guy is just start to climb the hill of his potential. His up-side is still a couple of years away when he gets a few hundred more games under his belt.
All good things come with experience in a young player like Arenado but the excitement of youth is not brought on by experience. I don’t know if someone should chase down Walt Weiss to get his opinion but I believe everyone in the Rockies’ organization should be proud at the least and pumped at best for the future with Arenado manning third base for their team. The Rockies will finish their journey towards a better, more youth centered team next year or at the latest the year after. When they do you can bet Arenado will be right in the middle of their successes.
