The Los Angeles Dodgers are not just Good right now; they’re Great

By now we all know the story of the Los Angeles Dodgers. They stunk up the joint early in the MLB season. They were in last place as late as the start of July. Now they are in first place and running away with the division without even a second glance behind them. They are obviously the best team in the National League West but are they the best team in the National League? I think they very well may be.

Obviously their competition for the best team in the National League would be the Pittsburgh Pirates and the ultra hot Atlanta Braves. I think when looking at teams like this it is very important to see the trend in their performance. The Braves won 14 games in a row but how have they been over the long haul or the last month and a half? At the first of July the Braves were in first place and have gone 24 – 12 since then. That includes the long win streak of course.

Over the same span the Dodgers not only have gone from 3.5 games out in last place to 7.0 games up in first place, they have also posted a record over that time of 28 – 7. Keep in mind that is without the benefit of a long winning streak. Considering all of the factors I really think the Dodgers have to be given the slight edge over Atlanta and Pittsburgh. If I had to pick the favorite in a long series it might well be the Dodgers. They might need to polish up some things before the 5 game series however. Right now if I’m sitting in the stands at Dodger stadium, I feel pretty good about my chances in the 2013 MLB Postseason.
