Offense Is The Missing Piece For The New York Mets Moving Forward

Harvey

With an innings cap looming, Matt Harvey took the mound against the surging Los Angeles Dodgers. With the Dodgers thriving for the postseason, the New York Mets on the other hand are trying to stay away from mediocrity.

Not to anyone’s surprise, the Dodgers beat the Mets. With David Wright possibly lost for the season, the Mets have no offense whatsoever. With Wilmer Flores being called up, the Mets have very high hopes for him. With the lack of offense, Flores will give the Mets a decent punch in the middle of the lineup for the time being.

With promising young arms coming through the system in Noah Syndergaard and Rafael Montero, there is a glimmer of hope for the Mets. If they are to cash in on these young promising players, they need bats to compete with the better teams in baseball.

Harvey has shown time and again that he can dominate the best, but you can’t win without runs. Once again, Harvey pitched well although the Dodgers tagged him for four earned runs. With a good offense a three run deficit can go away rather quickly. Unfortunately, for Harvey and the Mets other pitchers, there is little to no offense for the Mets on a consistent basis.

Harvey truly shines bright on the biggest stage. In order for him to perform at this level, the Mets must invest in players who can provide Harvey, Wheeler and their other young arms with the support they need.
