The Chicago White Sox 2013 season has been one to forget. I doubt they wanted to remember this season even so they know what not to do. If I were in charge there I would try to have everyone forget that 2013 ever even existed and fine people for mentioning. Except maybe there will be some redeeming quality to this season. It is very stressful and fun at the same time for a team to be in a race for the postseason. The role of spoiler however is one that is fun without the stress of expectations. That is the surprising role the White Sox are thriving in.

They have won five games in a row and seven of their last ten. They are pitching well and hitting well. There is nothing the Sox aren’t doing well. I have a feeling it is just as surprising to some of them as it surely is to all of us. At least they get the chance to gear up for next season and in the process can stick their thumb in the plans of everyone else in the division. Imagine the smile on these faces as they just beat everyone in the American League Central for the rest of the year. Maybe someone should make a sign that reads, Spoiler for Hire: White Sox.

Who even knows if the good things going on right now will be still going well next week, much less next year. Hey, they might as well enjoy beating people while they are playing well enough to do so. In fact the fun a team that is completely out of the playoff race can have simply by beating teams they shouldn’t be able to beat is perhaps a better picture of the pure fun of baseball than the postseason itself. Whatever your feelings on the majority of the Sox season in 2013, all fans must be happy to see them whoop a few playoff capable teams right now and in the case of the Royals, perhaps help them out of the race.
