Seattle Mariners Looking for Third Straight Series Win against Angels

Seattle Mariners

There are some good things happening around the Seattle Mariners. They just finished winning a series against the division rival Oakland Athletics and before that they won a set against the division leading Texas Rangers. They’ll take that momentum and try to turn it into third consecutive series win when they begin play against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night. It might be harder than they think.

The pitching match tomorrow involves Felix Hernandez and so favors the Mariners quite a bit as long as his stuff is working. The other two games in the series will see the Mariners face Jason Vargas and Jered Weaver. In those two games the Mariners will send up Aaron Harang and Erasmo Ramirez so they might be a little tougher to bring down. The advantage has to go to the Mariners however not only because of the way they are playing now but because they swept the Angels in the previous meeting between the two clubs.

Bragging rights are more on the line that perhaps either team would want to admit. It seems a little odd to say but they are actually having a pretty competitive race for third place in the American League Western division. They have for a while anyway. As of now the Mariners own about a four game lead over there. The only question going into the weekend is whether or not the M’s will have what it takes to put the Angels way back in fourth place for good this season.
