Game three between the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers will be a huge game for the Red Sox and starter Jake Peavy. The Red Sox will go into the game tied with the surging Tampa Bay Rays for the division lead in the American League East. The fact that they are facing the Dodgers is critical because they are playing better than anyone over the last month plus. Peavy is a member of the Red Sox because of games like this. In other words, this is his best chance to shine yet.

Peavy does not have a low ERA for the season but that doesn’t matter. All but one of his starts for the Red Sox has been of the quality variety and that is what the Sox need again on Sunday. Especially considering Peavy isn’t going against the best the Dodgers have to offer, he should be able to pull off a win if he can shut down the Dodgers enough to make it happen. If he doesn’t get the job done it isn’t the end of the world, but this is a big chance for he and the Red Sox to prove why it was a good move to bring him over.

I would look for a very good game from Peavy anyway because it is back not only in his original league but also playing against a former division rival from his early days in the Dodgers. Not that he will need extra reasons to get his motivation going for this game but that should help anyway. If the Sox come away from the Dodgers series losing two of three and in second place behind the Rays, it might be tougher than they think to regain that position. It’s a huge game for Peavy and the Red Sox which is why they got him. Let’s see what happens.
