The Detroit Tigers took a flight to New York feeling slightly embarrassed after losing two out of three at home to the Minnesota Twins. They will get on a plane this time feeling confident and ready to finish the stretch run. The Tigers convincingly swept the New York Mets holding their crucial six game lead in the AL Central over the Cleveland Indians.
Not to say things went perfectly for the Tigers who had to rally and claw for much of Sunday’s game, but anytime you can get a sweep on the road in professional sports you have to feel like you are beginning to do something special. It doesn’t hurt that Miguel Cabrera has found his rhythm at the plate again.
Many, including myself, questioned not putting Miguel Cabrera on the DL, but those concerns washed away as fast as the rockets hit off his bat. He is the fuel that makes the Tigers run; he is the Captain to the Tigers’ Tennille. Without too many embarrassing old pairs let’s just say Miguel Cabrera is important to any success the Tigers have and hope to have, and his home run in the first told everyone to get their brooms ready for cleaning.
As the Tigers blew it open with seven runs in the ninth, two things happened to cross your mind: The first being that the Mets really need to change their roster, but the second is that the Tigers can be really deadly when all of their offense is clicking at the same time. Having 15+ hits in two straight games proves that it’s not just Cabrera clicking, it’s everyone clicking. Good luck opposing pitchers.
