Slumping Jason Kipnis Showing Signs of Revival for Cleveland Indians

Jason Kipnis is the Cleveland Indians all-star caliber second baseman. He’s been great for the team this season with 75 RBIs and has been one of the leaders on the team in other categories. Even the best hitters go into slumps however and that is what has happened with Kipnis. His slump looks like about what a normal second baseman would have done not long ago but still for this team and for Kipnis himself, it needs to go by the wayside before September gets here.

Even with better play the Indians are still on the outside looking in six games behind the Detroit Tigers and a couple behind the last wildcard spot. Everyone is within reach but they need all hands on deck to get anything done. They have more than one or two weapons and Kipnis is far from a one man band over there but he is a critical part of the Indians offense. For the entire month of August Kipnis only has logged 1 home run and 9 RBI. For a guy that can produce the way Kipnis can, that isn’t good enough in a pennant race.

The good news is that he seems to be turning things around. Saturday he slammed a two-run homer to give himself the first homer of the month and two key RBI. He followed with another hit on Sunday to give everyone hope that he is busting out of his summer swoon. With the calendar about to flip over to September, the Indians are going to need him more than ever. Nothing would make them happier than to see Kipnis’ mini-hit streak continue during the coming week.
