Cleveland Indians Once Again Squander Perfect Chance to Gain Ground

The Detroit Tigers have a very good baseball team. There is little doubt or argument about that. Also the same can be said about the Cleveland Indians. The difference between the two and the difference in the pennant race is easily the fact that the Indians have not taken advantage of chances allowed them by the Tigers to gain ground. This week is very important for the Indians but they once again are not taking advantage of a losing skid by the Tigers.

As the Indians have the task of playing the Atlanta Braves, the Tigers are playing the Oakland Athletics. The teams will meet at the end of the week for one more big series. Head to head match-ups have favored the Tigers substantially but that all could be washed away this week. It just so happens that the A’s are creaming the Tigers. They beat them Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday giving the Indians one free half game and a great chance to gain ground.

The Indians played two good games on pitching and defense but just could not drive in the run at the right time. They lost Tuesday 2 – 0 and Wednesday 3 – 2 on a walk-off single. The Braves are tough and I’m certainly not saying they aren’t but the Tribe has to win one of those two games. What if the Tigers get swept and the Indians also get swept? How badly would they feel going into the series over the weekend? At the very least the Indians have absolutely got to win on Thursday. There can be no other choice. Then all they have to do is figure out how to beat the Tigers head to head; easy-peasy.
