Cincinnati Reds Move of Brandon Phillips to 2-Hole is Good Choice

After losing two of three to their division rival St. Louis Cardinals the Cincinnati Reds are looking to create a spark by sliding second baseman Brandon Phillips up in the batting order. Phillips doesn’t always get the press for it but he is one of the best second basemen in all of Major League Baseball. Dusty Baker’s move of him to the 2-hole in the batting order cannot be a bad thing in any way. It will be a good move for the rest of the season to create the spark they are searching for.

The Reds are not where they are right now, and where they have been in recent years because they don’t have good management. Baker has earned a spot as one of the better skippers in the game for a reason. He knows that his team had better not rest in the assurance of the second wildcard spot. Not only is that a dangerous choice because someone could possibly chase them down but also the wildcard is such a wildcard for real now because of the crazy one game playoff.

If they want their best chance for another trip to the World Series then the Reds have to win the division ahead of the Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates, two of the best teams in MLB all season long. There are a lot of good hitters on their team but the Reds likely know how important Phillips is to the offense of the club. Not to say it is all up to him but if he sets the table well from the two spot and drives in a run or two, it will be huge for the Reds in September. There are no guarantees in MLB but this is a great move by Baker and the Reds.
