The inevitable finally happened. Though there could have been one or two ways for the Minnesota Twins to keep Justin Morneau, the move that made the most sense was to trade him. They did just that by sending him to the Pittsburgh Pirates. There were mixed reactions from the Twins which is to be expected after all that Morneau has meant to this franchise. Catcher Ryan Doumit has it right though. He was nothing but happy to see Morneau stepping into one of the most exciting situations in Major League Baseball.
After the struggles that Morneau has fought through for the past seasons it was good first to see him begin to get that worked out of late. Some rumors stuck around that the Twins could possibly offer him less money with incentives but as soon as there was a good offer from the Pirates, the deal was as good as done. All that was left at that point were the sad goodbyes.
Some had sad goodbyes, maybe even most of them did but I believe a true friend and teammate of Morneau would find it very difficult not to be happy for him. Just imagine that electric atmosphere that exists for the Pirates right now. Think of 40,000 fans screaming when he hits his next home run or even when he gets his next RBI. After the trip through the last few seasons of struggle, Morneau really deserves this. He has stuck around and been faithful for the Twins and now he gets a chance to shine in the 2013 MLB Postseason. Good for him!
